It Pleases Thee

I read today a brief snippet about a woman named Madame Guyon, who was persecuted for her faith and imprisoned in a dungeon lit only by a candle at mealtimes.

My ‘struggles’ faded by the wayside and my heart was gripped by her obedient words in this poem she wrote of her experience:

A little bird I am,
Shut from the fields of air;
Yet in my cage I sit and sing
To Him who placed me there;
Well pleased a prisoner be,
Because, my God, it pleases Thee

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. ~2 Thes 5:16

  1. That reminds me of my all time favorite hymn by Anne Steele

    Father, whate'er of earthly bliss

    Thy sov'reign will denies,

    Accepted at Thy throne let this

    My humble prayer, arise:

    2. Give me a calm and thankful heart,

    From every murmur free;

    The blessing of Thy grace impart,

    And make me live to Thee.

    3. Let the sweet hope that Thou art mine

    My life and death attend,

    Thy presence through my journey shine,

    And crown my journey's end.

    Such sweet faith!! Thanks for sharing.

  3. Greta – love you right back 🙂
    Jacquelyn – I'd never heard of that hymn. The words are just beautiful. I just found it on a website and it says her mother died when she was only 3, she became an invalid at 19 from a hip injury, and her fiancee drowned the day before their wedding. Out of her suffering, came the beautiful words of these hymns. Isn't the grace of God simply overwhelming? Thanks for sharing 🙂
